Fault finding for the SA-6
alarm
Click on the symptom best describing the fault. No lights are showing on the front of the alarm... One or more alarm lamps are flashing... Lamps and/or audible alarms occur briefly...

One or more lamps are flashing... Is the
System Fault lamp flashing? Yes / No |
The System
Fault lamp is flashing... Disconnect the wire from the terminal for a
condition which is flashing e.g. if the lamp which is flashing is the Low
Pressure lamp on the left most column of lamps, the terminal would be the first
terminal marked L from the left. Connect a 56k resistor (colour code
green/blue/orange) between C and the terminal from which you have removed the
wire. Does the lamp go out? Yes /
No |
The lamp goes
out... The alarm panel is working OK. Remove the resistor, re-connect
the wire. Go to the termination board. Disconnect this end of the wire you
previously disconnected at the alarm panel. Connect the 56k resistor (colour
code green/blue/orange) between C on the termination board and the end of the
wire you have just disconnected. Does the lamp go out? Yes / No |
The lamp goes
out... There is probably a fault on the termination board
return to SA-6 |
The lamp does
not go out... There is a fault on the wiring between the termination
board and the alarm panel. This may be a conductor in the wire broken within
the insulation (common if small, solid wire is used), a terminal may have been
gripping the insulation instead of the conductor, or, if this is a new
installation, the wiring may be incorrectly connected. return to SA-6 |
The lamp does
not go out... There is probably a fault on one or both PCBs return to SA-6 |
No lights
showing... Open the alarm panel. Is the green lamp on the power supply
PCB on? Yes / No |
Green LED is
on... Is the ribbon cable plugged into the lamp PCB? Yes / No |
Ribbon is
plugged in... There is probably a fault on one or both PCBs
return to SA-6 |
LED is not
on... Check both fuses (remember the mains fuse is under the mains
terminal cover) and check that a 240 volt supply is present.
return to SA-6 |
Ribbon cable
is not plugged in... Plug in ribbon cable (it is keyed & cannot be
connected the wrong way around). return to SA-6 |
Lamps and/or
audible alarms occur briefly... The most common reason for this kind of
fault is failing to connect the screens of the cables to earth. Ensure that
all screens are connected to earth. Ensure that screens are connected through
any junction boxes etc. Ensure that all cables are screened. Ensure that
no signal cables share any multi-core cable with any other system or
power. return to SA-6 |
The System
Fault lamp is not flashing... Remove the wire corresponding to the alarm
condition which is showing, on the pressure switch side of the termination
board. Connect terminal C to the terminal you have just removed the wire from,
using a short length of wire. Does the lamp go out? Yes
/ No |
The lamp goes
out... The alarm panel, termination board and wiring between them are
all operating correctly. The problem is probably a faulty pressure switch,
incorrectly set pressure switch or a bad connection to it. return to SA-6 |
